Am I imagining this or didn't we use 6 cylinder flywheels on early hemis back in the day when adapting them to early Ford transmissions?

  2. I'd say yes.....as per my Hollander....the 57/58 six standard flywheel has the correct bolt pattern.....and although heavy and not really pretty -the six bell-housing and tranny will bolt to the big Hemi....kinda why I pulled one back in the day....for my inventory.....

I couldn't remember who told us about that but back then lots of knowledge was available from the salvage yard guys.

  4. I thought the six cylinders used only six of the bolts on the same eight bolt pattern used on the V8's

All depending on the year/make/model, the flathead 6 can have either 4, 6, or 8 bolt holes, all on the same pattern as the pre-62 v8.
Keep in mind that the tooth count changed for 1957 from 146 to 172.

Yes ,the six cyl. wheel could be used and would only use 4 of the holes . They would also disintegrate at high RPM also, ask me how I know.
