The demise of commercial illustration like this is tragic. Computers and photography just cannot make their subjects as intriguing.

Man this art is fantastic! I really like the Studebaker. The roof line is just perfect. Hood is a bit long but just fine! Thanks for bringing this to us!

I love this kinda stuff! Thanks for posting!
The mid thirties is my favorite period for American Automobile styling because cars then were just morphing from square boxes to streamlined design, influenced by aviation, new technology, art deco elements, etc.
The Esquire illustrations are very cool, however stylized, with slightly exagerated proportions, giving the cars a more rakish look.
Interesting to compare the 35 Ford illustration above with this photo I picked off the internet.

Awesome pictures. We had a set of old encyclopedias when I was a kid that had illustations like those. Cool stuff

By the way, with a girl like that with her bathing suit at her ankles, I think I would forget breakfast!!!

The 35 Ford looks a lot better with its long hood!

That Terraplane cuts a mean profile.

The text is as good as the illustrations. Great way to start my day.
