    Hey,
I'm in the process of a frame-off on my '65 and figure I should check the frame for sag at the front cross member.
My chassis manual doesn't have the spec for the distance between the upper A-arm mounts.
By any chance would any of you have that spec?

It's been years since I've pulled a GM frame for sag. If I still have the books there in a file cabinet in my shop but I'm not home today so it will be Friday evening before I can look.

Thanks mgtstumpy, that particular spec doesn't seem to be there but I appreciate the info.

CAHotRodBoy: C'mon man it's mostly from the camera flash..............;)

Forgot to mention, if frame is sagged, which is more common than some people realise, it's an easy fix if you have access to the correct equipment. I recall when I did local GM products down here in the body shop, we tied down the upper control arms and jacked up centre of the front X-member to restore OEM specs. The way to tell is to send car to a wheel align shop for an alignment with and without shims, that will give you an idea if frame has sagged and how much. Jack up the centre only enough as X-member will spring back slightly when pressure is removed. When there was no engine we were able to use an hydraulic ram between the upper towers to help realign the frame and remove the sag. Once done properly a wheel alignment will restore the car to a driver.

A jig can be used for the exact measurements, side to side of 31 1/16".

    Mgtstumpy, you sir are aces!!
After a front end alignment I noticed my pass side had many more shims then the driver's side, so I'm fairly certain I've got the cursed sag. I'll take measurements in the morning.
Will be easy fix for a shop since the frame is stripped - I'll accept scratches on my new paint.........
    Thanks again!

    Footnote E measurement - 31 1/16" Photobucket watermark covered, my bad. ;)
If your frame is 30 7/8" it has sagged and requires a 3/16" adjustment to correct.
