I have a neighbor with a '62 Buick convertible with the 215/PG combination, and the powerglide needs to be rebuilt. She wants to keep the car stock, so dropping in a modern auto or manual trans is out of the question, so... -Is there anything significantly different (internally/externally) from the standard GM, other than the bolt pattern, and -Does anyone know a good place to take it in the Athens/Altanta area?
Everything is completely different. What she has is a Dual-Path Turbine Drive transmission, a unique affair developed specifically for the Buick Special. You can read up on the gory details here. http://ateupwithmotor.com/terms-technology-definitions/hydramatic-history-part-2/6/
Hmmmm, So it looks like the best options are finding a Land Rover tranny or a 200r4 and an adapter...
That transmission should be a piece o' cake to rebuild, as far as the gear box and clutches. The torque converter is another story, as this is the meat of the transmission. Check around. Don't know if Lamar Wilkins works on these transmissions. He does work on Flight Pitch Dynaflows, which were odd too. Google him.
