Does anybody have a 6-71 main case lying around that they could get me an overall length measurement on?

Not the entire thing, just the ribbed section in the middle, between the end plates.

I have done a deep-dive on the web, and come up with three measurements, and don't trust a single one of them.

Thanks guys. Just making sure. I have a coworker who wants to sell me one, cheap, mid-conversion. He said that he "lapped" the end plates to the case. Had to make sure that he did not wreck the case.

He did. It is 14.882" now.

Damn.... If he shortened it by almost 1/8 inch, he must've been lapping with a face mill.

Rotors will need to be cut to fit case ,
No big deal if you have excess to lathe

I'm not sure what other "work" he did to it. It's not cheap enough that I cannot just get one that someone hasn't messed with yet.

Problem with something like that where someone has cut it shorter and possibly didn't know what they were doing is the good chance that the ends of the case are no longer square with the rotor bores. At a minimum, that would need to be checked, so, unless a person has access to a mill with enough spindle travel to do the necessary setup to square the bore and sweep the faces, they could spend $100-$150 just to get that done at today's machine shop prices.
