i got that 390 from Rock several years ago; it came out of a Camper Special f250 pickup and had a granny gear 4spd on it. i still have that flywheel somewhere, i think it's a grave marker for one of my raccoons.

you're doing well with the car. good job.

your on the rite path , car looks way better already!!! dont expect much out of the smithys they are way to quiet! swap em out for some ol fashioned cherry bombs, and it will sound like the sweet sled your after..

  6. This car calls for low and level, or slightly lower in rear. You don't want the ass in the air if you are running bellflowers-thay are ugly enough.

The bullets don't seem to work with the spacing in the grille- they seem kinda jacked against the bumper. If you're really attached to them, maybe try to move them into the center where they might have more room. Just a suggestion.

Did you notice a difference in handling with the Aerostar springs? My '53 rides like a dream since I did the swap.

I have a 58 Fairlane and I have been ON this thread! The FE powered 58-59s are a fine machine indeed.
I think Henry put enough chrome on the 59's to suffice.I would not take any off, but not too sure about adding more to the grill.....
After seeing yours, I plan on putting the Aerostar coils on mine.Stance is perfect..

  21. this is the standard grill that these car got in Australia in 1960 and 1961.
We had a 3 year run with this model. I believe it came from a Mercury?? maybe Canadian. It is also alot stonger than the stamped stainless grill that the 59's got.[IMG]

love the areostar coils,it actually seemed to improve everything!

  23. IMHO that front bumper looks way too heavy, probably be better with a 57 ford bumper.

    Any new pics?

I know this is a Sledsel but very similar in style and size. I just heated the shit out of the front coils and used three inch blocks in the rear. I used the cone center caps on 15 inch smoothies with 1 1/2 WW. I just parted with this car in August.

I used with glass packs that were about 14 inches long, 2 inch pipe, best sounding car ever.

AAAAAAA++++++++ on the fact of either shave all four or none on the handles and the bellflowers would be next, maybe skirts even?

I believe number wise you need to pull pan and check the bottom on the block for the numbers. Otherwise bore and stroke.

I know someone will be more definitive on this shortly.
