I have been trying to find a pair of rear shocks for my 57 Monterey with no luck at all. So while I was replacing the rear brake shoes I removed one shock and found a part number! I thought hell yea I got this whipped but no luck with it either . So i thought I would turn to the HAMB for some help. The stamp on the shock says. heavy duty 48281 made in USA and has OFA on it as well. Any help would be appreciated.
Not sure if this helps or makes you feel worse: the other day I went into a local NAPA to get an oil filter for my ‘35 pickup. Since I have two vehicles with 8BA flatheads, I have been asking for an oil filter for a’50 Mercury for each of the last 20+ years successfully. This time they wanted the number off the filter. I’m thinking “really?” They ordered a filter for me based on what they thought apparently. I picked it up and when I saw the slip said ‘57 Ford truck V8 I was suspicious. Thinking it kinda looked like it was the same, I later found out it was different. In the end, I needed to give them the number off the old filter to get the correct one. Serves me right I guess. Won’t happen again. My point being that even common parts are getting harder to get. They’re out there but seems like you have to know what you need as catalog searches getting more difficult for counter people I guess. If nothing else, this will push your question back up for the night shift.
