Well, that's a non-stock application so finding a header 'designed' for that probably won't exist. But there are choices; there's quite a few manufacturers offering 'shorty' headers for the FE and the better ones will have some dimensions to help select which one will be best for you. If you want long-tube headers, I'd start by looking at '65-72 Ford truck headers as those will be based on a similar frame design. Don't be surprised if you have to mod them to fit. It may be worth calling this guy... http://www.fordpowertrain.com/fpaindex/FordTruck1.htm
thank you for the reply. I was thinking someone put an FE in one of these trucks along with some headers off something. The shorties might be a solution but for now the search continues. Thanks again Crazy Steve I appreciate your input.
There is a guy repopping those cast iron shorty headers for about $700. Has got some good reviews on them. Bones
The first year that Ford put an FE in an F series truck was 65 which is also the same year that they put the twin I beam suspension under them. Still I'd think the main thing is steering box clearance. I had a buddy in Texas in the 70's who had a 460 in his 56 but don't remember ever seeing under the hood.
The hitch with the 65-72 headers is, the engine is mounted around 4" offset to the right. I had to notch the RH rail to clear a set of 406's in my 65.
Funny thing about the 'offset engine avoidance'. Few take into account the driveshaft 'U' joint phasing (vertical). "It was necessary!" O.K., so the engine is set 2"-4" off center to the right (passenger side) 'U' joint will also forgive this slight discrepancy. But the hard fact is that Chrysler co. has been doing this for years, as well as some German mfrs. Gets you away from the steering box! Headers are available on Craigslist, the Bay, and other outlets. ("Offer Up" is one) I bought a set of 390 headers (stainless) for $110, new in box. Nice fit on my 406 in the '54 Ford coupe frame.
Yep Buy Speedways.Got them on my 56 F100 and in all my 60 plus years of installing headers they are the only true bolt-in with no modifications. View attachment 5148214 View attachment 5148214
