so now that i have seen all these sweet pics...

it looks like i might be able to land the 58 PU in the top of the thread...

i definitely would like to lower it, but im wondering what options are out there...

i can't seem to think i'll be putting a front clip on it...

but any wisdom on dropped axles? or options for a 55-59... and while im asking...

is it true that the front clip of any of those years is interchangeable? i heard the cabs were all the same?

im guessing a 58 fender wouldn't work on a 55 etc... but would the WHOLE front clip of any year fit on the cab of them all?

    thanks for the wisdom.

Drop axles are out there. You can get down quite a ways with one of those and a monoleaf spring in front. The rear is standard operation like all over live axle rears.
You can really make it happen with a clip though, real easy to do if you have a welder and patience.

As for sheetmetal yeah front clips are interchangeable from 55-58. But the fenders are different on the front.
    Cabs are interchangeable as well.

I would drive it just like that. That's the kind of patina you show off.

You can swap the clips, but the '58/'59 have a longer front frame horn that can be trimmed to make the bumper fit right with the '55-'57 front clip.

My $500 turd hasn't come very far (I think), but I did build a Model A inbetween buying it a year ago. I might drive it within a week, gotta bunch of little stuff to do, besides installing the glass and taking it off non-op. It's got a 350 and a 5 speed.

Funny thing is I should have never sold it to you, and I should have bought it back when you were selling it...

I've noticed these are all short beds. Anybody ever do anthing with a long bed, and what kind of job is it to shorten a long bed, into a short bed truck?

does anybody know who makes drop axles with the most drop? and how dropped they can go before the steering linkage etc become an issue?

i noticed the car and truck shop in orange lists a 3" drop but i was hoping for more...

Thanks man, I'm selling the El Chumino after I get the '57 on the road. It was a decent car, until I hit a Suburban with it. Still a decent car, but it was always just an S-10 to me....

Here's another HAMB thread of Task Force trucks:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8635

Here are some other stock-type, non-lowered Task Force truck pictures. A lot of the pictures are of 4x4s, because I've been thinking about putting a NAPCO 4x4 conversion on mine, so I can take my truck everywhere. NAPCO did factory installations in the 50's trucks, so yes, there are "traditional 4x4s".

    Two of my favorite pictures:

They don't have to be lowered to look good, you know.
