I had a the glass guy come out today to put a used windshield that I supplied for my 55 Chevy 210 2dr. It was about 1/2 too short on top.

Any idea what the windshield I have is out of? (It was included with the car when I bought it)

    Prolly a two door hardtop...

Sedans, two and four doors are the same...converts fall into the hardtop class...I would think a Nomad wagon also shared hardtop glass...a regular wagon would prolly be a sedan glass...but I'm sure an expert on here will correct me if I'm wrong...

  3. I'm an expert at something but I haven't a clue if you are wrong. ;)

I never paid any attention to the fact that hard tops had shorter glass good to know.

1/2 what? half an inch? I think the sedan glass is more than 1/2" taller than the hardtops.

Maybe the roof is bowed up in the middle? did it have a windshield in it already?

i think the 2dhdt glass is about 2 inches shorter than a post car. could it be 150 glass/gasket? not sure if they are different. hell i got a 2dhdt and a 4 dr sedan, when it quits rainning i'll check

  7. No, there are just two 55-57 windshields, as described previously, and gasket makes no difference. They're also shared with Pontiac, same body style limitations.

The more I research there are more than just 2 windshields. There has to be. I have 2 different ones sitting here that don't fit.
    My car is a 55 210 post.

I'm reading that 55/56 are the same.

    57 is different.

  10. Unless you have the Hollander glass book that says otherwise, you have glass out of an Olds or Buick or something which is still different, mislabeled perhaps.

glass should have a number, like W394 or W396 (sedan or hardop)

or W513 or W512 (57 sedan or hardtop)

Just in case someone else needs thise info in the future, Here's the story on tri 5 glass.
    <HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
Go by this when buying a windshield-
55,56 2 door hardtop,4 door hardtop,Nomad and convertible use the same windshield.
55,56 2 door sedan,4 door sedan, and wagons use the same windshield.(one you need)
57 2 door hardtop,4 door hardtop,Nomad and convertible use the same windshield.
57 2 door sedan,4 door sedan, and wagons use the same windshield.
57's will not fit any 55 or 56, because of the cowl differences.
So,there were a total of 4 different windshields for tri-fives.

I tried to put a sedan WS in a hardtop once. Finally measured the the old one and the new one. The sedan was 5/8 of an inch longer from top to bottom, measuring along the glass. Sedan WS fit all sedans, HT WS fit fit all HTs, regardless of the number of doors. As stated above, 57's are their own animals.

Old thread I know, but thought this would be helpful for future researchers. Found on another site:

just measured the bare glass that I have on the shelf. Center of glass.

    1957 sedan style 19 1/4"
    1957 Hardtop style 18 3/4"

    55/56 sedan style 18 1/2"
    55/56 Hardtop style 18"

All are +/- a little bit.

So I guess if you were to chop a 57 sedan or wagon, go with the hardtop windshield. It would not be much of a chop and you still have the back glass to contend with. I guess I talk myself out of that.
