Is the box adjustable? I am getting slop from the steering box and i don't have a manual. Your help is appreciated.

yes the adjusting screw is in the wheel well. loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting screw in till the slop is gone.

I adjusted the gear on mine and it made a world of difference and was not very difficult at all.
    The manual instructions are here.

I took lots of pictures when I did it and posted them on chevybombs.com, I can't access it where i am at now unfortunately.

If you don't find it I can look for it this afternoon. Cesar

yes, same style box. I think the only difference is the older boxes have bushings instead of bearings on the 53/54

That's the first step but you still need to check the whole steering linkage to make sure that the rest of it doesn't have a lot of slop in it. The bellcrank bushing on those is pretty well known to wear and get sloppy. and then the drag link and tie rod ends.

Mr48 that was the first thing I can check. plus it has new tie rod ends. Could still be the bell crank bushing, but from what i could see the play seemed to come through the box.

    Thanks 54fierro and kustomkid...appreciate the info~!
