Sorry to resurrect an old thread but, why start a new one on the same subject...right? So anyway, can the original '54 Chevy headlight rings be welded or are they pot metal? Has anybody tried to lead the headlight rings on or would that not work?

They could be but I'm not sure. I've always wondered why everyone used other rings to french when the originals are already the perfect shape and size. Can stainless be leaded? If I had an extra pair I'd hit one with a grinder to see what it looked like under the shine

The originals are stainless, not pot metal. I've seen several '54 Chevies with frenched stock rims and they usually look good, especially if they don't paint the inside surface.
