I have a 53 Buick Special and looking to get rid of this torque tube. Going to set up a link system and swap out the rear end. Any idea what rear end would fit? Thanks for the help.
There are numerous threads on this, a search will have lots of information. If you want to keep the 5 x 5 bolt pattern, the best choice is a 9" out of a 1958 big Edsel. The track is 59", same as original.
Danny, what part of the country are you located in? Got pics? I’ve got a ‘53 Special basket case that I’m undecided about unless I can get a parts car for it and the ‘52. Here’s a pic
You have a ton of options, ford 9”, chrysler 8-3/4, chevy 12/10 bolts and 8.5’s. I elected a ford 8.8 with disc brakes. This swap has been covered allot for leaf springs, so run some searchs. As far as a link setup, it would depend if you are buying s kit or trying to use a stock setup and may require more thought and measurements to get what you need.
IMO……a four link kit, and retaining the original coils and pan hard bar is the easiest and most cost effective suspension. there are other choices, to be sure, but every alternative has it’s upside/downside. pick your poison. Ray
