Hello All I looking for some info regarding a 52 Chevy. I purchased yesterday so more pictures and a build thread will be forthcoming. What I would like to know is, when I picked up the car the gentleman commented that it's somewhat rare because it's a 210 business coupe (no backseat) and most business coupe where 110s. I've heard the "this is a super rare" car speech before from sellers as a way for them to justify what there asking for there car, but this kind of caught me off guard because it was after the sale had been completed and the car was on the trailer. His comment was that it's somewhat "rare" they only made 800 of them in the 210 model, this kind of surprised me. If this is true I might just have to rethink this project, as I planned on turning it into a true drag car (gasser) from the 50'-60s built to the Southeast Gassers Associations high standard of correctness. But if they truly only built around 800 of these I might just have to change the builds course and keep it close to original. Are there a production number for these cars in the 50's. the VIN is 1KJH10804 and a picture of the body number plate is attached. The H.A.M.B's knowledge base is one of the best out there, so look forward to hearing what all you keepers of the lost knowledge have to say.
Didn't know the 210 style came to be before the 53 models. I'm thinking your car is a business coupe. No back seat. On the tri fives the style no on the data plate states 1211B. Trim 210 would the interior style/colors. Just my opinion.
Production number on your coupe were a little over 10,000 built. model 1227B Styleline Special 210 is your trim package
There's no 110, either. It's a 1500 series "Special". The "Deluxe" cars are 2100 series. Then, in 1953, we get 3 series - 1500, or 150, 2100 or 210, & 2400 or "Bel Air". This group of names/numbers works until 1957. Another model confusing to some is the Delray … a really nice vinyl interior in a 2 door sedan designed to replace the 210 Club Coupe after 1953.
they are more rare than the others but not as valuable. people like the Deluxe models. you have a Styline Special Business Coupe. if it had a back seat it would be a Styline Special Sport Coupe. the 210 designation was not used in any literature, just than the trim tag
Looks like a nice solid car, do it your way! Enjoy! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The 210 on the trim tag has nothing to do with the model designation. That's the code for the interior color/material. The "KJ" at the beginning of your VIN is the designator for the "Special" series. The only other series was the "Deluxe." As stated above, the 150, 210 series designators came about starting in '53 and there was no such designator of "110." Your car is a three passenger, Special Styleline business coupe, most often used by salesmen who filled the devoid back seat area with their sample cases. The seller had no clue what he was talking about. 118,681 cars were produced in the "Special" series for the model year. Of those, 10,359 were the Special Styleline business coupe. Also as noted above, it is sort of "rare" in sheer numbers, but that doesn't always translate to valuable. Weight was 3,045 #. So, go build that gasser and have a boatload of fun!
I can remember when business coupes were looked for to build as they were a little lighter than the standard coupes. Should be perfect for your gasser build.
Save the wood best you can for patterns. Some special braces under the floor also. Business mans rolling briefcase
Doors are unique to a Coupe, yours should say 1227 on them, under the upholstery (if there is any). I had a 51 Bus Coupe; should have kept that car. Looks like someone has removed, and filled the holes for the rear fender, rubber, stone guards (no longer re-po'd), but you can still get the stainless steel ones ($$$$$). I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
My car in the Avatar to the left is a '52 Styleline Deluxe 2-door sedan. Your rear quarter windows are smaller and. the interior is less spacious. The coupe is less common. No matter, 1948-52 Chevrolets are begging to be customized.
