I'm putting a 239 Y Block in my 50 Ford and I'm going to use the Hurst front engine mount. I've read that I have to use a truck front timing cover and I've also read I can use the car timing cover. Has anyone used this mount and does it matter if it's the car or truck timing cover? I'm using a truck rear sump oil pan and I may still have to notch that to clear the tie rods. Not sure the difference but the cars had what was called a "steady rest" mounted to the timing cover. A lot, including me, have removed it. If the Hurst mount is a saddle type I would think it would be impossible to keep that front mount. Courious .. Why a 239. They were weird and had 1 yr only parts. I would think a 55 272 thru a 64 292 would be a better choice. Good luck.
I've got a good running 239 at the moment so that's what I plan on using. What are the one off parts on a 239 or what won't interchange with the 272 or 292? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
The lower 4 bolt bosses extend forward on the truck front cover to allow the stock front engine mount, while the pass car cover's bosses are close to the block. Ebay has both styles for sale to compare.
Difficult but not impossible to rid the engine of the Loadmatic distibutor because of oil pump drive and cam teeth. Aftermarket intakes are harder to get because of small head port size if your looking to change from the stock 2 barrel. A Merc 255 would be a 4 barrel choice but it has a small base. Other Y-Block guys will probably chime in.
The truck cover has bose/extra casting running out more from cover were bolts go for mount. The car cover,if you wish to use it,will need some pipe spacers made to take up gap,so bolts go through mount, then pipe spacer an in to cover an block. So yes ether can be used, but car need you to make spacers were needed.
