Earlier GM cars, 30s and also 40s I think, the first two numbers were the year. Is yours a 51?

Well, my guess is still 51, but I'm not up on those. But there are quite a few guys here that answer questions on early 50s Pontiacs. If nobody replies tonight, bump it up around 10AM for the daytime guys at work You will get more lookers

 

51-2569D = 1951 Cheiftain Six Deluxe, four door sedan. Third character of VIN also indicates year, U = 1951.
