I have a 1949 Merc 4 door. We modified the interior handle mechanicals to trip a bear claw latch by reshaping the end of the torsion shaft. The modification worked for a while but has since failed. The torsion shaft and retaining mechism is a poor design. I assume Ford changed the opening mechnism in 1950 because of this. Is there someone on here who has successfully modified or replaced the 49 mechanism that would give me some helpful advice? thanks in advance Dan
