Thanks, I have a '53 303 in need of a rebuild, and a 394 ready to go. I really like the '49 style valve covers which I could run on the 303. Didn't look at the bolt pattern on the covers. Sorry. Thanks, Joe.
I'll send you a pic of my 394. When I firt got it a fella looked at it and said "Cool where did you get that 427." Then he looked a little closer.
Will 49 -50 Olds 303 Valve covers fit on 62 Olds 394 heads? Thanks, Joe. [/QUOTE] Yes they will but it takes a little fabrication. You need to pull the 4 head bolts[ 2 on each side] that are located where the 2 holes are in the older valve covers. Take a piece of 3/16 steel, drill and tap it for your valve cover stud and drill a hole in it so the head bolt will hold it in place. You can either install longer head bolts or machine the head at these bolt locations if you are concerned with adding a 3/16 piece of metal under the bolt. I used 56 covers and they fit fine even though they were a little shorter in length as I remember.
I was wondering if it could be done but does not look like it is as easy as putting a 216 valve cover on a later 235.
