Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by corvettesander, Dec 25, 2012.

  1. I am very jealous, that is going to be the ultimate hauler. Can't wait to see it finnished.

  2. The cold saw. Is on loan from a good friend
Its not who you are, But its who you know :D

  3. started making some door frames tonight

  4. I like what you are doing, but then again it reminds me in many ways of my old one (It now lives in Sweden) Mine still had the radiator up front, with a 383 stroker Chevy and it Never ran hot with just a single pusher electric fan. Motor was in the middle like yours.
One other thing to consider, the doors on the side for the boxes, mine were double doors so that they weren't so long and easier to open if you were parked next to somebody.

  5. Nice ! i have seen your old Coe before on internet :).
i like the outside mirrors you used are these available new somewhere ?

the doors i made are actualy only to get to the engine
i probably will add a smaller door behind it on 1 side for storage

  6. after trying to figure out where to put fuel tank that came with the silverado,
and since the original locations for both the tanks are occupied by the engine
and ramp storage now, and would not fit elswhere

i decided to make a new fuel tank

made the tank the same height as the original so the fuel pump/sender will fit
    [IMG]

the capacity is abouth 32 gallons

still need to make some brackets

  7. Thanks! My side boxes were storage (and the gas tank was in one and the battery in the other), and then had a second door on the back side to get to the motor. Plus I had a trap door in the ramp to get to the top of the motor, and then I build a little bench inside there so I could sit down to work on it, basically straddled the motor with my legs while sitting behind it. :D

The mirrors came from C.W. Moss in Orange, CA

  8. made an adaptor plate for the fuelpump/sender
didnt want to weld it on because of wraping the tank and adaptor
    so i drilled a few holes :)

Nice. On my tank I just used RTV silicone + sheet metal screws. Doesn't speak for my craftsmanship but it works fine and it's out of sight anyway.
Did you machine that ring or were you able to buy it that way. Oh yea I bet your friend has a machine shop... :p

Which reminds me of another saying "When there's a will, there is a way. When there's a dutchman, there are many ways!" :D

  11. machined it @ work ;)

  12. Probably not the best idea since most RTV Silicone's get eaten away by gasoline ..... You might be getting a leak and not know it, and the silicone could fall in the tank and plug your pickup.

Man this is just fantastic! One day I'd love to build one.

  17. got the tank almost done, made some brackets and placed the filler neck
next task will be to treat the inside with a tank sealer from Por.:)

Forgive me, but I'd like to make another suggestion...I would reinforce the lower mounting tabs. The apear that that over time, vibration and fuel weight will try to tear them apart. This is just my 2 cents worth based upon what I can see in the picture. Otherwise keep up the good work.

  19. no problem :) the tabs are 4mm thick (8 a 9 gauge steel)
but i will check if i can reinforce them a bit more

    from right here

I'm not sure on exact weight of gasoline but water is about 8 pounds per gallon so, 32 gallons is 256 pounds. That's about 116 kilos to the crazy metric system rest of the world.
