  1. Good start, TG2K. Hopefully you're keeping the chrome steelies!

  2. Here's one belonging to another pal..

And one I discovered on a side street last summer:

  3. Hey Dave. That´s amazing. The gold effect on the edges when the sun shines on it are really nice. Looking forward to see it assembled.

I've never seen a Monarch that early. Sort of the inverse of the Mercury 114 from those years.

Ditto. That grille is pretty nice, and I've never seen one before.

  6. I really don't know much about when the Monarch was introduced to the buying public, but from what I understand the Canadian Ford dealers were after a car they could market that would compare favourably with the Mercury. Inversely, the Meteor was the Canadian Mercury dealers' answer to the Ford market share..? This '48 is the earliest I can recall seeing.

Thanks for the props Kenneth! I plan to do a (re)build thread soon..

  7. A couple more pics of that Monarch:

    Nifty Lion head hood ornament.

Wish I had taken a better pic of the horn button!

And, the badging at the rear.

That's about the size of it. Most towns had either a Ford or a Mercury dealer, but not both, so they tried to offer cheap Mercs, fancy Fords and Merc pickups so everyone could buy local.

I actually just wrote an article about all the Canadian specials for Hemmings, but I'm still trying to get my illustrations together before it can run.

  10. Ooo. Nice coach flatout! Even cooler with the new stance!

Bigcheese, thanks for confirming! Sounds like you bit off a bit of a project with your Hemmings article! I will have to watch for it! I don't suppose you know the introduction years? I don't think there was a Meteor until '49? I was a little surprised to spot a '48 Monarch..

Hood is one pieced, trim shortened and filled now. Skirts are at Garlands Sacramento getting some shape added to them.

  23. Great pic nitrobrother! This image is one of many Rik Hoving has in his archives showing Jessie Lopez' car with work by the Barris bros.. He's got the hood off (probably getting ready to race) and you can just make out the supercharger. There is an amazing tribute car featured in a thread here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/recreating-the-jesse-lopez-coupe.726708/

  25. Posted this one before but that was from a 1979 photo, same paint and I remember being very drunk in the opera seat of this coupe back then. Still looks sharp. JW
