thanks guys. its cold tonight and all i have now is my bicycle. so staying in tonight. be back at it in the morning. ill take more pics of how the back all ends up.
thanks koolkemp. had time to go through your build thread the other day. holy crap dude! you've done a ton of work on that car. awesome.
ok, so left you guys off with some dark pics and no pics to go with my explanations. so here you go. this here shows the piece that is swapped from side to side. this means i dont have to remake anything because of the added length to the edge of the fenders. next, this is what is being sectioned in order to keep everything working as original. next, welding and cleaning everything up in order to keep everything flowing right.
been working on all the inner structure of the trunk and package tray area so no real new progress pics. but i did move the car in my shop to get a good side view of it on level ground. so here you guys go. 2 pics, not sure if one is goingto be too big for the screen to see it all. second pic is of it photoshopped with leaned a pillars. now im not very good at photoshop but now you can see the difference in roof lengths. instead of it being 3 3/4" shorter than stock it is now 5 3/4" shorter in length than stock. thats why i ended up adding that 2" strip.
so if its not one thing its another. been going nonstop trying to take care of some other things and this got put on hold for a little bit. well, now im back at it. unfortunately mu computer is acting weird and i cant load any pics to my photo bucket. so you will have to click on them to view them. hope you enjoy. first pics are of how i made the package tray.
next, we jump to the headlights. now i kept tossing the idea around on how i was going do to this. so it went from cutting down 50 chevy ones down to getting a pair of 52 buick ones. i took a piece of 1" sheetmetal and wrapped it around a coffee can. then inserted it and welded it to the inside edge of the rim. then welded the whole thing to the fenders. now the outside edge contour didnt flow right. there was going to be either a lot of filler ( lead, bondo, etc) so instead i made some filler pieces from sheetmetal. if this wasnt dealing with the location of the headlights i would have cut out the old metal and installed the new, but ite filler work needed now is very very little so im fine. also, i didnt happen to fill the hole for mounting the trim befoer i took these pics, so thats what you are seeing.
and now onto the hood. i removed the hood seam flanges first after i fixed as much of the previous damagethat i could and tacked the two sides together. now to get everythign to flow correct one one of these, they need to be shrunk to get the correct curve. not an easy task, but here are pics of how it turned out. still waiting on correct hood mounting bolts and the rubber for correct alignment before i finish the metal work.
and unfortunately you sometimes have to do things more on a streetrod side of things, but that doesnt mean you cant do it with a little bit of class. here i took an aftermarket license plate french kit with one of those gross looking lights that normally sit on the top. didnt like the look of it. so instead i made a cover to hide the light and now it will only shine light onto the license plate. i used a 3" louver as the cover.
any progress ? I'm just curious because we want to chop my top in about a month or two. is it ok if I send you a PM if I want to have some extra info or pic's Jurgen
Well, I'll have some more prepress pics up someday. Closed down my little shop. Got too far behind on rent and child support. So I'll finish this car for the guy when I can afford too work for free.If there are any questions about how I did this, pm me. I love chatting with people. Going to be working on only friends cars now. So get ready for a 52 Buick chop, and a 65 fairlane chop in the near future.
