howdy all! ive got a question, will the fact that this piece broke off effect the engine performance in any way?? is the block junked, can it be repaired or should i not worry about (i dont plan on making it an everyday driver or race it around, just a weekend and every now and then cruiser) thanks!!!!!!
You can fix anything if you have enough money. It may be easier and less expensive to just find another block. Any cast iron welders and machinists out there care to give some input?
Best look for another engine. I suppose it could be welded and machined but in reality - find another engine.
Yep! Your better off disassembling the block now and see what can be saved.. Hope none of the "junk" never made it past the oil pump pick up screen...
the engine was a rebuild, so all the other parts are NEW. it has never even ran!! good part is i only paid $500 for it!
to b honest I hav no clue!! lol I recently bought it and like a fool didn't look there. just saw the bottom half. but it was cheap and had good new parts. so, it's junk?? everything else is in tip top shape new. I couldn't even use it as a weekend cruser??
Only idea is to bore the remaining bore out and then fit some sort of sleeve and then weld it to the block, and the remaining boss.
sorry, i forgot to add the fact i HAVE the broken piece.(it broke off in one piece) with that said, and please forgive me if i anger some folks, but could i just clean the hell out of it and just JB weld it back????????????????? ive been reading MANY threads from many sites saying it has been done on the lifter boss b4 with GREAT results!!!.
whats the worse that can happen? The lifter will break the rest of the bore out and it will drop that cylinder. Run it,i would.
Jimminey Christmas would you look at all that casting flash . Hey the one at the top of pic same side don't look so hot either. I'd inquire about sleeveing it, vs machining a different block to match all those new parts. I'd also inquire about running a smaller lifter in that one bore, that way your existing bore wouldn't need to be weekend with an over bore. If that is possible then I'd jb weld that chunk to the rest. That may only cost you a few bucks to have a sleeve made to fit the existing bore. Don't run it like that, everything will be toast in short order.
That two!!!... I've always used a die grinder to deburr a block, heads, intake..Etc, etc... And let's not forget port matching..
