So I'm working on a '40 convert project. I have 16x6 front and 16x7 wheels. I'm looking for suggestions for tire combinations, probably a 27" tall rear and 24" tall front. Everyone seems to be running 15's. Guess I've got to be different. Thanks in advance for your input. The wheels pictured are just rollers Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
IMHO, your 27" rear and 24" front OD sizes are way too small for a '40. More like 26"-27" for the fronts and 28"-29" for the rears. Add the proper tire width for 6" and 7" wheels along with small OD tires and that's plain wrong for many vehicles, especially fat fender cars like a '40, again IMO.
I'm with okie on this one. About the same size as his I ran on the 40 and 39 Tudors as well as my 40 PU.
Oh, better to err on the too tall then too short side as long as it will steer and not rub. Nothing worse then too short on a hot rod. 16" might limit your choices a bit.
Mate you are on the money I'm planning run a similar combination on my 38 dodge coupe in my opinion those big guards and wheel archers need a 16 inch rim Just trying to get new hoops to fit my dodge centres Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
