Still trying to find out some information on this swap meet find flathead intake.....4 carbs with an opening in the base to the supercharger (I think)? What I don't understand is the large opening in the front....could it have been for a 2 engine application with a similar intake facing this one and connected to equalize the manifold pressures....I found this in Lake Havasu AZ where McCullouch was based and developed speed equipment....appears to be forged in 2 sections and then welded together by someone who knew what they were doing....
is there an actual mounting flange on the bottom? It make me think of a draw through plenum for crank driven supercharger.
Could be.....then the round tube would feed the supercharger? The Potvin supercharger applications I have seen had the pop off/backfire valve at the base of the supercharger....
The last picture shows the opening at the base.....not really a flange.....but I assume there was some sort of coupling between it and the supercharger...
The pop off valve has some pretty stout springs on it.....that would be quite a backfire through the round tube?
It would make sense if the carb manifold on this set up had the round opening at the front...maybe it is hidden by the supercharger?
Could be, the open in the last pic make me think pop off valve. what ever it is from, it had to be forced induction, cant see that thing flowing very well with out something pulling on it to make it flow.
Pop off valve should be down stream of supercharger. If that manifold is indeed intended for a pop off valve, I would suggest builder didn't understand purpose of valve.
That may have been how it ended up at a swap meet.....what about the idea of 2 engines with the manifolds facing each other?
