I know the VIN is on the left frame rail but I can't find it. Is the left and drivers side the same? Is it under the battery tray? Is it a plate or just stamped into the frame? Thanks for any and all help you can give this old dummy!

Thanks for the help. I found it. All I had to do was pull the radiator, bend a metal fuel line out of the way and clean 78 years worth of crud off of it. Now I can get it registered in my name.
Guys I have a 1939 Pontiac and cannot find the VIN on the crossmemeber. Both cars have a clear area on the frame but the number is not there! One is sandblasted and painted ans the metal is real nice. The other has surface rust but is nice and clean
It is on the front cross member, driver's side. I had to take the radiator out and move the fuel line out of the way to see it. I will go out to the car and take some pictures for you in a little bit.
Here are a couple pictures. In the first picture the VIN is just in front of the generator. Second picture is showing it with the right end of the small curved black hose laying over it and the third is a close up showing how fragile the tag is.
It's a Woodie.. I see it is not stamped into the frame on a 39! It is on a tag. Mine was removed when the frame was blasted and it is now missing!
