lve just acquired a 38 Plymouth like l need another car...
Any how the old guy passed away and he owned it 58yrs.
lt was his pride and joy and theres collector plates on the car.
The old guy kepted a log book going on everything done to the car. To how far he drove it, how much gas he used,to every nut and bolt he replaced.
The car was repainted in the 60s.The interior is a little ruff but all there and not to bad for 67 yrs old. Plus runs and drives great.

So now l own it..
l bought some skirts for the car,lm lowering it right now,and lm getting some white wall tires for her.
Then maybe paint it black later on down the road.
l was thinking of leaving the rest alone.
Lets have some imput here, let me know what you think l should do to it?
Heres some pics of it right now .

    yeah leave it

  4. Step away from the skirts! Leave the black ( flat or otherwise) alone! Drive the living piss out of this car!

People would kill to have a starting point like that. Drive it and get some non-alcohol induced ideas. That car is beautious!!-MIKE:D

  5. LOwer it and drive it...

Thats a sweet lookig ride...or go the same route as Ryans (exterior wise, not saying drag car internals!!).

    Beautiful car.

i have the same problem, i got a 41 plymouth unmolested all original, tossed and turned on it for awhile and i have decided just to lower it and take off the bumpers and smooth it out, if a cars makes it 70 years totally straight, we should give it a break, drop a crate hemi in and make it the greatest sleepr of all time, i love the grill on that one

  8. awesome car.. I wouldn't change too much other than the stance.. maybe soom speed parts.. I'd start with exhauset..

    Good luck!

    1. NO SKIRTS

    2. Lower...yes, quickly.

    3. Whitewalls and vintage rolling stock, yes.

    4. Drive and enjoy....if there is one mint one in a museum somewhere...thats enough..its YOUR car now do what you want with it.:D

  11. I'd probably get it striped (nuthin too gawdy) wax the chit out of it and leave the paint alone.

I'm not real big on skirts (unless they come with a broad attacked) but that's your call.

Now the next big question is this. Is it a hotrod? or a restification. If it were mine if not immediatly at least in the not too distant future it would be in line for a drivetrain upgrade. Mayhaps something not on the main stream, like a 413 max or a hopped up poly or a baby hemi. Anything that makes more zot than you'll ever get out of the boat anchor that was modern when that beasty was built.

Of course that also is your call. If your happy with a 45 mph cruiser then leave that alone also.

And just where are you going to hide that one?

I think you should just give it too me, I have a extra bay in the shop.
Lower it and add some wide white, otherwise just leave it.

    Good score Rick!

  14. I agree, vintage speed parts, extra tail light, rubber rake, and some seat covers.

Wear it out before you start over.

    Speed parts, yeah!!

What size 6 is in it?
I saw an add last week for a 265? c.i. plymouth flathead 6 out of a boat.
Dual carbs, dual exhaust and an aluminum head, the guy wanted like $1200 for it though.

  20. Paint the steelie wheels a contrasting color add some stainless trim rings and lower the car a little.....
leave the paint and upholstery alone [and dont cut on it] at all!
That would be a killer KEEPER kinda car .......

please please dont paint it black...ahhhhhgggg, another black car.

  23. That is a SWEET ride man! I agree with NO skirts, slam it with WWW's and you're good. You could even change the shift knob and ad Mex. blankets, update the tail lights of another vintage car.

I think just lower it a bit and drive it. It looks really good as it is.

spare set of points, and generator brushes in the glovebox.

lower a little, drive the piss out of it!

research an easy dual circuit brake swap,
and drive the wheels off of it before you "personalize it" too much.
    cool find!

    Thanks guys.
lm just going to lower her for now but l all ready order the skirts l will fit them on and see how she looks. For the engine l will split the exhaust when l find another manifold for the 201.But any thing l do to it l want to be able to put the car back to stock with out wrecking anything. The paint is bubbling in spots but not from rust from the prep work on the trunk l guess it wasnt done right.l think l will leave it alone its not that bad with a couple of bumps and bruises on her.l no most people are telling me to leave it alone. The car does sit to high though and l think lowering will improve the stance and make it look more perporshioned.

That is a beautiful car. I'm a big fan of sleepers, so if you dropped a bigger motor and updated the drivetrain but kept the body stock (with a lowering, I agree with you on that point) it would be a bitchin sleeper. It's my opinion (as uneducated as it is) that there's a cut off point between project and not project. Yours would be in the not project category. Congratulations on a sweet find and have fun!

Lower the stance a bit, wide white wall and maybe some subtle pinstriping. Then drive the hell out of her.
