Okay, just got a new set of 37 Chevy tail lights for pickup from SW; went to mount them yesterday afternoon and there is one centered threaded 5/16 screw on the back that is pitched at a 45 degree angle? If these are popular hot rod tail lights, how the hell are you all mounting these flat and flush?

    Should I:
Take housing apart, flatten out 45, drill two holes and mount flush?
Make brackets with 45 bends on each to make flat mounting tab?
Throw both in the brook and buy a set of Model A lights?

You may have a truck bracket and a car light, if my memory is correct they look alike but mount different. It has been 40 years so check it out.

I've been debating about buying these for my '37 sedan. I need the single mounting bolt you mentioned. This is how the passenger car lights were mounted.

Looking on the auction site, similar truck lights mounted with two screws.
    Hope this helps.

Chuck, this is going on a T-bucket bed; I have no bracket. I have seen these til lights on many hot rods, just thinking someone else has run into my conundrum.

  5. you need the truck version. they mount using two studs out the back .

Yeah, I got the wrong ones. Looked online and I don't think SW offers the truck ones. I am going to take the assembly apart and flatten the 45s out in a vice with a block of steel.

    That will make a mess.

If you want to mount them flat: I would experiment with a big piece of thin cardboard, to be a pretend tailgate panel.. Cut 3 sides of a rectangle in the center of the cardboard, but not the bottom of the rectangle. Then bend the flap inwards to match the angle of the taillight backside.

Just cut them and mount them flat.
