That door looks 100 times better! You must not remember how bad it looked due to old age:D. I didn't get a picture of it before we started on it. I have the skin completely off now and yes I am going to fix the inner structure first. The part at the top where someone cut and pryed it up is looking really good.

Today I put my rearend up on the narrowing jig to check that it is straight. It is withing tolerance. I recesed part of the x-member so that there is clearance for the speedometer cable. I also decided how to do my third link and started to make that.

No I didn't I figured it would be ok since I skipped around while I was welding and I never let it get real hot.

Today I got the rearend put back together and mounted in the car. the backend of the car is sitting on wheels with suspension for the first time in years now. I also welded the seams on the x-member and put the engine and trans back in. I forgot my camera today so sorry no pics.

Today I finished straightening the frame piece and put it back in. I had to shorten the drag link, so I cut it in half and put a shaft in at the splice for strength. I didn't want to use a sleeve because it doesn't look as clean as this. I put the new bearings in the hubs and put them on the front end.

  25. Definitley need to check it I would bet it is no longer straight. When I did mine I skipped around and did really short welds to keep the heat down but it still warped. Nice work by the way.

  26. so how would you straighten it?

I have had success by applying weld to the opposite side to pull it back that way.

    welding shrinks the metal locally.

  28. Really a great thread...brings back fond memories of my tech school experience. Nothing like having tooling, experience, and others to brainstorm with.

Very nice clean work. Some fresh new approaches to common problems. Always glad to add a great build thread to the library.

This morning I made spacers for the front spring clamps since I removed a couple leaves. I got the front end under the car and it is now sitting on four wheels and tires! I like the way it is sitting.

  30. I took mine to a drive line shop and had them spin it on the lathe and straighten it so I knew it was right
