    Need Advice Please,
I bought a 348 with a 3 speed and want to convert to TH400. What do I need for an adapter amd flex plate/ starter ring?
    Thank you!

just bolt it up....same flexplate as a 283 engine would use, the block bellhousing pattern is the same as the small and big blocks.

I don't know for sure about the starter, I think the block is drilled for the large diameter flywheel type starter bolts.

You need the 168 tooth flexplate.
I just used a chrome mini starter, the one where the bolt holes are straight across and it has the aluiminum plate that the starter actually mounts to.
You will need to rotate the starter so the solenoid is at the bottom so it will clear the block.Hope this helps!

this is one of the reasons that many rodders continue to use Chev engines in their cars - Michael Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzmichael. You don't need to carry a lot of facts around in your head to keep track of what works with what from 1955 on up till most recently - and who cares about 'most recently'?

Ford tried - but looking at the first sbfs - bellhousing bolt count? gee whiz...ya can't even get it right the first couple of years?

time for a little more coffee...
