hello there I wanted to ask if any of you have the firing order for my flathead. On the distributor and the firing order of the cylinders and in what way do i count them thank you very much for your help Paul
Firing order is 15486372. Cylinders are numbered like all Fords: 1, 2, 3, & 4 are front to back on right bank (passenger side); 5, 6, 7, & 8 are front to back on the left. Distributor turns clockwise.
thank u dale, i appreciate it very much, now my only other question is my engine doesnt have spark plug wires so im trying to figure out in what order they go on the distributor thank you paul
in a model a pickup...its supposed to move.... ill get some pix going... need to get goin on puttin it together
Using the information Dale posted above ... Firing order is 15486372. Cylinders are numbered like all Fords: 1, 2, 3, & 4 are front to back on right bank (passenger side); 5, 6, 7, & 8 are front to back on the left. Distributor turns clockwise. With the distributer in position - engaged with the cam drive gear - and the rotor on the shaft ... Bring the engine to TDC on #1 cylinder. With the distributer cap OFF. Using a piece of chalk; mark on the outside of the distributer body where the rotor tip is pointing. Replace the cap and using the firing order Dale provided, - remember you will be going in CLOCKWISE direction - start AT the chalk mark - inserting the corresponding plug wires in the FIRING ORDER and to the cylinder.
How many cars do you know with these giant lump of metal in the front? Are they awfully frontweighted and howabout handling? At least the engine is about 4 inches behind front axle ,couse i streched the wheelbase a bit. I will soon take the first smokes out of the engine and waiting snow to melt from the roads....
I've had one in a '53 F-100 for years. Never noticed any adverse effect on drivability-'course the F-100 wasn't all that great to start with.
I am wondering if the above is correct, regarding the turning of the distributor. Everything I have seen, including the Van Pelt site, says that the distributor turns COUNTERclockwise. Unless this 337 ci engine is different, which is correct?
According to MOTOR's Manual '49 - '53Ford & Mercury V8 & '49 - '51 Lincoln distributors turned CLOCKWISE : Ford switched to COUNTER-CLOCKWISE with the overhead motors.
