It may not be perfect but I’d rather have a car like yours with it’s extensive personal history than one that is perfect. You’re doing a great job @33Doll!
Got the tranny cover pretty much Dialed in and started the 1/2 tube frame to make up the thickness of the old wood flooring. I also cut, an Re welded the lip, further back and up! ALOT more clearance! And strength! Just need to cut and weld on the extension to cover that opening for the driveline/ Tranny
Thanks Appreciate It! Sure is different when it has a personal connection to the past… Some Good…some not so good memories…involved with this car… more Good then Bad Though!
More Floor Done. All the angles and math on the floor is killing me!!! I think I got it figured out now, I have to make some support pieces to beef up the bottom where your feet go on the edges and also seals it up from the wind! And I took apart my garage fan to use as a visual aid to what size fan I can use this one's a 17 and doesn't fit so I think I can use a 15 maybe a real small 16 but it has to be ultra thin!!!! Also Debating just making a new section for the pedals, and Steering column… or cleaning up, and adding new top pieces to the original recessed piece. And grafting it in to my new metal floor? (The cover pieces have to be split horizontally to go around the pedals.) And sit down flush in the recess. I think I will do that. Dunno… we shall see.
No Bead roller…. No Problem! Some scrap metal… vice grips… and a Hammer…. My own mini stamping press. Gonna use some nut-serts and Tie in the floor… to the toe board. I could weld all the stuff but I want the Floor to be removable like the original wood floor makes it a lot easier to get to the back of the tranny, the starter and all that stuff! I probably will seal it with some kind of rubber/foam seal and, seal it with some black marine stuff once I’m done and getting it running and all that. I can always cut it with a razor blade and reseal it if I need to get to the engine on the back.
Floor is fitting good! But how does this happen so fast I swear just piles up without me even knowing it the whole garage ends up inside the car!!! And I can’t get to my workbench!!! Geez I hate stopping to clean!!! But now I can’t find crap!!!
I still haven't bounced back from my last garage Thrash...I hear you...Every time I try to organize all hell brakes loose...I think I need something from ACME...the box with a T Handle... The floor looks awesome...
Thanks! Plugging away! Got the car cleaned out…the garage…. Not so much! Floor will be done soon! Everything is fabbed and tacked! Just need to trim the original Pedal piece, and graft it flush in the new metal…. Then the card board templates is the filler, and column mount , I will be temporarily installing My IDidit column for fitting. Getting Excited!!!
That's one of those areas where sealing is difficult, pedals through the floor...I'm surprised no one has made a rubber bellow/boot over the felt or brush that's standard in those applications...one advantage hanging pedals have over Henry's early 30s finest...
Well… No work done on the 33 this weekend but I got the garage cleaned and organized for the next round of business!!!
After working full time and still playing with cars my work area shrunk. After retiring I decided to "clean" the shop up. That resulted in a five year project (57 Ranchero) because I found a 351 C tucked away. It needed a new home so the Ranchero project was born.....
My shop looks like the "before" pics! Wish the weather would clear up long enough to roll out my '32 project and clean up in the shop. Yours looks really nice now. Dave
Had to set them in there and see what they look like! I don’t fit no problem just need to fabricate brackets to elevate them.
...Oodles of Headroom...you could add up adjustment too...to make for more ergonomic options...they were a big improvement over the Model A's and Sedans allow for more wiggle room......better more than less...and seeing traffic lights is good too...
Yup! I cut some Angle Iron for legs. Up about 2” I think, Everything else is good, Gonna modify the the clutch pad and offset it a bit too.
"In my humble opinion sir, the ergonomic projection of ones elbow to the window edge is critical" I agree the seats look like they need to come up quite a bit. I put a felt pen line or tape on the middle of the windshield and have my wife or daughter line up to my eye level from 20' feet in front of me. It takes me longer to get the seats in the "just right" spot than it does to build the engine....
I got it now! Just need to line up perfect and drill the holes! Elbow is positioned properly! And my vision is right in the center of the windshield!!!
Yup!!! My dad and uncle’s taught me at a young age to do it properly. You can probably guess who’s the little lad in the 34?
My test for seat placement was to grab a smoke (not any more), a couple of beers and sit in the car. If you can sit there comfortably for 30 - 40 minutes without squirming around you've got it.
Welded the Stock Gas pedal holes, fixed all the cracks for when I dropped the front of the body on the floor off the sawhorses. Primed And Waiting for black Paint
Welp! The wife and I finally got the Covid! After 2 years 2 months!!!! So not much done on the 33’ Finally felt good today after 5 days. Slept for 4!!! Painted the fire wall! In between dis-infecting and cleaning the post Covid Cooties!!!
Boy! Im glad I didn’t chop the top! With how much this small tranny tunnel gave me such trouble! Moving warping Slice an dice!!! Finally got it looks like crap! I’m gonna cover it with all that dura glass fiberglass filler and then undercoat it black rubber under coding and insulate the backside of the toe board and the bottom of the tunnel. Ignore the ugly gorilla welds I was tired they will be covered!!!
Well that Duraglas did the job! It hid all them gorilla welds!! (of course I did grind a whole bunch off too!) Floorboards are done!!! just trying to figure out the tranny seal I think I put it in backwards last time the pressure side should be on the inside I’m thinking??? this picture I found on the Internet I think is wrong like I had it??? Basically the correct way would be the spring facing the inside of the transmission case correct like a normal oil seal? The front snout throws you off.
Man, I've just poured through this thread and I'm hooked! your work ethic and attention to detail are nothing short of inspirational!
