  1. So true! Life in America in 2009, such as it is, brought to us by the the people with the gold who brought us our latest economic disaster:(. Now you see why I love old cars more than money! :D

I was initially going to get in to a nice polite comment regarding morals, money, asking prices and sale prices, profits, etc. I changed my mind, and actually figured to throw it out there for real. Fuck off. Anybody and I mean ANYBODY on this board would do EXACTLY whatever they could to make as MUCH as they could along the lines of a deal like this. I would. And all of this bleeding heart bullshit about fair and "...what if it was your grandparents..." well fuck that too. It isn't. If it was my family I'd know about it but apparently theirs didn't. Hooray for the lucky buyer and may all the profit possible go his way. I for one have NO intentions of paying his bills or feeding his family, and those of you crying the loudest about the potential for profit should either step up and pay that said person's expenses or simply stop being so FUCKIN JEALOUS that it wasn't you.

It isn't a good looking car in my honest estimation.

So let me get this right fellas. Your telling me that if you found a oh lets say a rough 34 ford 5 window coupe for 100 dollars, in a field. Thats what they were asking. You would tell them its worth 5 grand and pay that? Personally, I live in north idaho. I look for the good deals all day long. Driving all over bumfuck nowhere, and not finiding anything 98% of the time. I bought that damn car and sold it maybe a month later. For almost 5 grand. So according to you im not a good person? That money helped put me though underwater welding school. Which i just graduated from in October. If somebody got that good of a deal off of me then so be it. I will have gotten what i wanted out of it and they can do whatever the fuck they want to do with it after me. This Drama can get pretty irritating on this board. I would have bought that 1000 dollar roadster in a heartbeat. I would love to build it just like it has been and srive the shit out of it.

  8. I didn't feel bad about the last old guy I "hosed" buying cars from, considering the "friend" who was helping "take care of him" would have preferred to see everything scrapped for pennies on the dollar. As it is I doubt he saw much of the money I did spend, but if he did, we did pay more than scrap. That I was making in some cases 1000% profit is their loss - we paid the prices they wanted.

And that's what it boils down to - sell it for what it's worth to you and you'll never have to worry about feeling boned when it's gone.

i have bought cars and sold them to friends who then again sold them and made a killing on them. They got more than I thought was possible. I still made money on the deal, because I have to, to keep my habits and family alive. I dont mind that he made money. It is the way it is. If I have a buddy who needs something for a car I usually sell it for what I paid for it if I know they are going to use it. Many times I just give them the part. I think the car hobby is about sharing and helping each other. We all look for the good deal. If the person is happy with the money they are getting for the car they are selling, then whats up? Show me the person who finds a car for $500.00 and then realizes it is worth 2k and tells the person and gives them the 2k? Let him who has no sin cast the first lug nut.
The guys who hoard stuff are just greedy and sick. I hate those guys and they are the ones in the car hobby that I try to avoid. They can die with all their junk in their lives and live without people. They can be buried with the stuff on top of their grave. They keep stuff for the status it may bring them and the fear of status loss or security it brings to them. I avoid them like the H1N1 virus. I wash my hands of them. I would rather give my stuff away to a friend who needs it, or make a trade that we are both happy about and take the loss for the long term gain of friendship. That is what counts the most in life. Not all the metal you have sitting in your garage rusting and rotting away. If I have no use for something I get rid of it. I gave a guy a vintage Midget race car with 2 v8 60s for some Eldelbrock heads and some rebuilt carbs. He was happy and i was happy to get the thing out of my life for some parts I needed. I took a loss but I also gained. Give a little take a little. You reap what you sow. Carma?

If I find a 20 dollar bill on the ground should I be willing to sell it for $10?

Wow, I thought I might get flamed with a Bic lighter, not a Blow torch :)
Socialist AND a bleeding heart are two things I NEVER thought I'd be called!
From sr's response, he appears to be a good guy, who knows Karma can be a real bitch. And since he's not even the guy who orginally bought it, I guess he may have been unjustly slammed in this!

I just stated my OPINION. I HAVE bought stuff knowing full well I was NOT going to use it, and peddled it for a couple hundred bucks profit. Am I jealous that someone bought a REAL 32 roadster with history for $1000?
Of course I am! I personally would have kept it, but if I sold it, I would like to at least THINK I would have made the previous owner happier by giving him a little more money, if I sold it for a large profit IF HE NEEDED IT. In reality, every situation is different, so I won't say I would FOR SURE. Heck, for all I know he was clearing out the garage before he left for his $10 million dollar Malibu beach front retirement home in his giant motorhome, and sold the car to buy a golf cart! :)
I'll go back to my corner now....

Just a little background on this whole egay deal. The owner was contacted via email and phone calls by a number of people who saw the deal go down. He had a lot of numbers thrown at him over the phone and in emails. The man is a man of honor and virtue. He turned down all other offers and even corrected some members of his family and said, basically, "A deal is a deal". And that was the end of it. That is integrity. That is valor. That was the right thing. That is above and beyond correctness. That sets a great example of how things used to be. A mans word mattered.
I paid a bit more than the 1k for it. I paid a fair price for it from a guy that knew it would get back on the road and who needed to move it to work on some other higher priority projects. That is just how it is. I saw the car and saw potential and worked it out.
I would prefer a car that had no notoriety because I am hog tied to leave this thing alone. Which I will do. I like to build them and make them my own and make my own history. Living in the shadow of another person/car is not fun.
I restored Don Waite's 500 roadster that is in the NHRA museum. You want to talk about a burden of ownership. That was king. Cant touch it, cant change it, that goes against the first commandment of hot rodding. So I sold that car. I like to build and have fun and do what I want. Just me. History is awesome. My history is more important. I am trying to not be known as the guy who changed the egay roadster into another glazed donut.... if you know what I mean.
I love the car. It is a blast to drive. People love it and can relate to it. I just have a problem or need to drive faster than the speed limit and this car makes it difficult. It sits in my shop. I let whoever wants to drive it, drive it. It gets loved and taken care of. It is nice that i didnt have to wash off the el mirage dirt from last weekend. I think it just made it worth another 10k. Lol. And 40 & 61 ford guy you can come out of your corner. This whole website is for fun. I sure dont take it too seriously. And it is always good to hear other peoples opinions. That is what makes this site and this country so great. (well we used to be able to hear various opinions).
Here is the lincoln dash in my old 32. Yes i still like to fart.

I wouldn't call it blowtorch. Sometimes you go with the dark side of black n white, you take the results as-is. Yes sr this site is indeed a happy place. The differences in opinions are at the core of what any member/lurker here is in to. On the light side of black n white we should be happy for ourselves that gave enuff of a shit share it with us. We got to see the ol thing and form opinions about it :D

oh, yeah...stop with gas man it stinks in here!

    just expressing myself!

  18. Well said SR, I think most people don't read every page of the whole thread to know the whole story before they get wound up..........and as they say "the devil is in the details!" A civil conversation on this board is something we all should shoot for here, there's no need for anything more, because as you said "this website is for fun!"

There is an old saying "Buyer willing and seller willing". Entirely possible, and good for him! Judging by the fro could it be Halloween? I like the gal's expression the best.. "Not another piece of junk old car honey..." But But But. It is also worth pointing out the vast majority of the people who read this have vision. To the average sports nut - it also may look like a body of an old car that needs a lot of work. D
