I know the pictures aren't very good but can anyone tell me if it might be a 32. The seller is telling me it is.
Yes, if it can be bought right buy it, just don't pay the price for a '32 frame. Looks like you are buying juice brakes a flathead of unknown quality and a rear axle, I'm thinking it is a $500.00 pile. Bob
Model A frame, front axle looks to be 37 or later, (used long shackles to make it work), Later rear with the A spring mounted behind which shortens the stock A wheelbase unless the frame has been extended.
So I could use the frame front end steering and transmission but would have to change the rear end to set a A body on it?
Not sure what the steering is, could be a 35-48 ford rotated for side steer. As you stated, you could use what you mentioned. You could also use the rear end, just extend the frame and correct the wheelbase.
A stock Model A rear has a spring over top the axle, the later has the spring behind, when used in a stock A frame, moves the rear axle forward shortening the wheelbase.
Oh ok now I understand thanks so the frame is right I would just have to move the rear end back under the spring.
The seller probably considers he is selling you a "car"; but it doesn't look like it ever was. Looks to me to be a poor choice as a start to build an A/V-8. Wrong front axle and bones, wrong steering, from the looks of the weld marks all over the rear cross-member the frame may be cobbled up, engine left open to the weather, etc, etc. Not really a lot there. Better off to get the correct (and good) parts the first time.
You didn't mention it had a 26-27 T Roadster body...............forget that $500. I mentioned earlier. Bob
I can get it with the body or without. I was trying to get it without to save money because I already have a 30 roadster body.
The more you buy the more extra parts you have to sell to off set the cost of what you plan to keep. Bob
Good start to a cheap t-modified if the price is right. But the body is probably the best part of that pile as others said. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Are you looking at this on the net or can you see it in person? I'd want more pics and a firm price from the seller then we can really help you. I would agree with Rich B, find a nice frame to start with unless you are on a very tight budget. Then, this may be better for you.
It's over 4 hours away so unfortunately I can't just go look I am on a very tight budget that's why I thought it would be worth a little more to me because the mounts and steering and juice brakes are all there. I already have a good engine trans and A body. He wants 3 grand for it all. I do like the body but can't keep them both and I like my 30 more.
If thats the same car I have seen on C'list here in NC for a while thats a bit pricey in my opinion, and probably why it hasn't sold yet. I cruise C'list a lot and I have seen complete A chassis with front and rear suspension from $600 to $1500, with the high end having an engine in them. More parts you get the better off you'll be so you can recoup some of your cost to purchase.
I just did a 5 minute quickie search and came up with these. Now these may not be right around the corner but if I needed something bad enough and had to travel to get it myself I turn it into a weekend adventure by inviting the wife. Hell I have been to Texas and back in 2 days to get the body I wanted. If you don't have a full sized pickup truck you must have a buddy with one. These frames will fit in one of those. A couple days effort and you have what you need instead of overpaying for something because it is more convenient. https://stcloud.craigslist.org/pts/d/boxed-late-1928-to-31-ford/6307710292.html https://worcester.craigslist.org/pts/d/ford-model-chassis-frame/6283305402.html https://eauclaire.craigslist.org/cto/d/1930-ford-model-rolling/6290372668.html
Your welcome. I am doing a 31 roadster which is the body I got out of Dallas. If you have any questions on your build feel free to hit me up with them.
