Ever since I got my 32, I hated the flat custom steel firewall, this past weekend I installed an original that I had just restored (it was in very bad condition). After cutting the flat one out it was partially welded to toe boards I thought I bit off more than I could chew just for this relatively easy job. Any way here is the comparison I hope it was worth the effort.
Well worth the effort,,I always disliked the flat firewall and my coupe also has a flat firewall but when it finally hits the road the original firewall up in the rafters will replace it.HRP
Wonder how many original '32 firewalls were replaced with flat stock when an engine swap took place. Hard to do anything but a SBC and not have to cut one up to make room. I am glad to see some of the reproduction guys making a flat firewall with the original bead pattern in them. It's better than a flat sheet. When building the heavy gauge firewall for my '32 5w which will have a Kugel reverse mount master cylinder, thus requiring a heavier gauge to eliminate flex, I'm skinning the engine side with the insert out of an original one. That's great man looks mucho bueno! I have a brookville flat type firewall for my '32 that I traded some heads for. I really wanted an original but seeing how I might set the hemi back into the cowl I don't think it matters much anymore. But on yours it's like night and day!
Thanks Guys, just finished the toe boards everything fit like a glove and now to squirt a little Colonial white on it.
Hey Brian, Thanks . Next project is replacing the fixed windshield with the original swing out style just waiting for hinges from fellow Hamber Pops 29, then I will take the 3 inches out of it.
Looks awesome man!! I love '32 firewalls but fred steele's old roadster looked much better when he went with a flat one, so i'm a fan both ways.
