    so, I have a 37-40 frame
    40 wishbone - unsplit 2.25 boss
can I simply use the 40 wishbone 38.5 perch - with its 2 1/4 boss, with an aftermarket 47.25'' 4'' dropped axle, 2.25 boss?
do posies make the narrowe spring

is it possible to bend a 40 bone inwards an inch each side to get there, or does this then mess with the castor
I gather I then need the extra drop steering arms
the steering box will need to come down some too?
do I split it anyway as the pitman arm then twats the bone
do I come in exactly one inch per side?
    currently 59 1/4 with 40 axle
    so I get 57 1/4
    ???????????????????
so my stock 40 axle is
    49 7/8 inches wide / 38 1/2 inches perch
    32 stock is
    51 3/4 inches 36 9/16 inches

    but aftermarket is
    47.25 - 36 9/16
    --------------
    38.5'' = 978mm
    36 inches is 915mm - 9/16 is 14mm = 929mm
    978 - 929 = 49mm
call it an inch per side

so If a posies 2040 spring is 39 inches wide - 39.5 wide laden.
    they don't make a spring 37 inches wide...…

Just use a 35/36 wishbone however you will have to grind the bone and the axle a little because it’s for 2” axle boss but the “perch” centers are the same as a 32 axle. your 40 spring will work on the 35/6 bone
Use dropped steering arms. you don’t need to move your steering box I think that’s a VW bus thing

  3. No, not properly anyway. You would need to split the wishbone due to the narrower perch bolt location that a 32 to 36 axle has. In the process of splitting the wish bone you will need to heat and bend the spring perches at the end of the wish bone to bring them back to 90 degrees to the front face of the axle. You will need dropped steering arms to clear the wishbone. You can either heat and bend the factory arms down to clear, (research this if you haent done it before to keep the Ackerman correct) or bolt on dropped steering arms. You sill not need to lower the steering box from the stock location or alter the pitman arm. Chassis Engineering and Posies can get you the proper sping to do this with, they have them in stack you just need to talk with them or email them since I see you are in England. Also the 32 to 36 axles are a 2 inch axle and the 37 to 40 axles are 2 1/4, you can use the 2 inch axle with the 2 1/4 inch wishbones buy using a thin spacer to take up the difference. A thick washer of the appropriate size will work fine.

Also the other option, though a little more difficult being in England, is to use the 32 axle in a 35 to 36 wishbone. That will make it all bolt together, and will not require the splitting of the wish bone. The early ford axles from 32 to 36 share the same overall dimensions (width, 2 inch axle, and perch location). But the 35-36 wishbones are made for the 35 to 40 frame and share the same front spring from 35 to 40. This is how I lowered the front of my 39 in my avatar. Mine uses a 36 wishbone and 34 axle dropped 4.5 inches with a Posies reverse eye 2 inch dropped front spring.
