I’m working on a temporary option 223/6 but planning on rebuilding my original 292 y block. I have access to a 312 4 barrel intake. Is this a bolt on to my 292? Thanks. Will
No. A 352 is a FE and had a front mounted dist. you can use a 312 intake that uses the large base carb.
Keep in mind that the '57 4 bbl version has the more modern 4 bolt carb pattern and it might be worth it to find one instead of a '56. More expensive of course. Charlie Stephens
Start here at Mummert’s site, “technical info” at the bottom. The manifold will probably bolt on. How it matches the heads, and which one it is, depends on the casting numbers. Remember, all y block parts, even 2 barrel manifolds, are 312 parts if they’re for sale. Port match at the heads can be handled with a little port matching, unless maybe they’re 239-256 heads. The early 4 barrel manifold used either the teapot, or a small carter. Mounting a modern carb requires an adaptor for bore spacing and bolt holes IIRC. Depending on what you’re starting with, pay attention to the comment on the 57 and later distributor. You don’t want a load-o-matic, either the single or dual diaphragm. Mummert’s site will tell you what you’ve really got, and what you’re looking at. http://www.ford-y-block.com/
Ford used the Y-block series motors up to '64 in commercial trucks/busses, so don't restrict your search to '57 only( or 312 only), as that late style 4bbl manifold might just be lurking under a large truck or old school bus hood, especially in F-600(or lower) versions.
Why do you want "one" when you can have "two"? It's on a 292" also. 57 was the only car production for what we know as the standard 4 barrel carb base. If I were you I would use a Mummert or Blue Thunder aluminum dual plane 4barrel manifold if I ever take off the dual quads. Look into the Summit 4 barrel which is a copy of the old Autolite and seem to work excellant on the Y's. The YBlocksforever website has a lot of info on these engines and their use.
Yes Ive seen the large base 4 bbl on 292 trucks made in the early 60,s. Ive sold two of the ECZ 9425 B intakes in the past year. The rusty one I pictured Is the only one I have left. I think I will hang on to it.
