Hot Rods 305 V6 to SBC 350 swap?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fourdy, Aug 12, 2019.

  1. My wife has a 66 chevy 3/4 that her daddy bought new. 292 six granny 4 speed and 456 rear gears. Its a puller but guzzles gas. I plan to swap the entire front suspension and rear end from a 86 60 thru 66 trucks 001.JPG dads truck loaded w feed.jpeg 3/4 ton under it. that way she gets disk brakes on the front and taller gears in the rear.

  2. You have a 1 ton rig. You might be better off buying a derelick motor home and swapping the driveline and suspension onto your truck? Anthony Myrick is doing that with a 61 chevy over on the Antiquated forum.

  4. Yes I was under the impression it was a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck. one ton and larger trucks retained the band type emergency brake on the rear of the trans.

Good evening. I just joined. I have started research for a similar swap. Candidate is a GMC K20. 305 V6. SM420 and possibly a Timken T-221 transfer case. 4.57 front and rear. Truck is 100% original. I have a 350 SBC crate engine I won at a car show raffle to put into the GMC. Looking for an NV4500/NP205 combination along with everything else needed for the swap.

My 67 swap is under way. Pulled 305E V6 to go with a 70 CST 315hp 402 BBC. I have the frame mounts from LMC for a 68thru69 bbc. What cross member mods, move to keep origto NP435G trans. I do see additional holes in frame for cross member, and clutch Z bar locations. By Kentucky windage,,, it looks like moving cross member to forward location would put BBCclose to frame perch side mount. Or do I need a Chevy 67/68 crossmember?

BBC on perch mounts is 3in forward of V6 cross member.

Looks like tranny moving forward, lengthen drive shaft.

402 running with belts system for swp with hydro boost brakes. Need to add additional return line... Turns out 67-72 C10, C20 uses 67 Chevelle style pwr str pump.

    GMC also made a 478 CI V6 and a 637 CI V8, the 637 replaced the V12

BBC in and Running. TH400 is in, driveline in. Hydroboost system correct now with swp, and correct pulleys. Almost ready for dual exhaust.

Have an Uncle who had a 1961 GMC PU with the 305 V6,
This isn't his truck, it's from "The Barn Find" site. But look at the badge on the fender...

My dad had one back in 1972, pulled race car with it. No rust, red and white, sold it years later to get a 454 dually 1975.

High Torque V6... pull a mountain down.
Could lug down to 1200 rpm.
