Yes I am still new here. Reading and learning as much as I can. I know some here say Ford in Ford, while others sat SBC. I know the dollar and power differences already. Gathering parts for my 29 Tudor build.
I am 6’ tall. Really don’t want to extend frame or indent firewall, although I woul move firewall if I can still fit. Never had a ford motor. Looking for a change.
So please, any descriptions and with a lot of pics would be great.i will be doing automatic with Winters rear (not the quick change) for traditional look. Doing full fender rod.
I was going to resurrect this thread MODEL A'S W/302 FORD? However it was started in 2012 and ended in 2014. Some good info but not enough. Thank you all that respond in advance...

Here is mine in my 28. 289 with aod trans. It fits fine but when I channel the car I’ll have to recess the firewall a bit. I’m all about keeping a Ford in a Ford but dang sbc parts are cheap...

While I'm not a fan of the SBF in a Model A, others are, so to each their own. I've got a few pics I'll try to find and post them here.

    Hey Wizzy,
I too am thinking the AOD trans. Did you have to recess firewall? Short water pump? How is the hump for the trans? I am not going to channel...

I don't think the frame is lengthened, but the radiator & grill shell are set in front of the crossmember.

On the blue coupe it looks to me like the frame could be stretched a couple 3 inches or so.

As it is now it fits with the stock firewall, electric fan, short water pump and small trans hump up front. I'm also using sbc motor mounts with sbf adaptor plates.

Here is my 28 roadster. 32 frame, stock firewall, radiator moved forward about 2" and new hood with 32 shell. C4 Ford tranny and 9" third member At Hot Rod Reunion a few years back in Bowling Green. SBC is cheaper but not what I wanted. HO 5.0 roller cam engine bored to 306.

Neatest way ive seen is to flip the firewall around. Takes a good bit of looking to realize what's been done that way

Also, on the 302’s I have seen the oil pan is split into two sumps. Will the front one interfere with 29 steering configuration? Or does it clear?

I moved the rad forward 1 1/2". I lengthened the frame around 4" .Can't remember the exact amount, gettin old. And I used the short water pump. Didn't want to cut into the firewall, not much room in the truck to start with. Also no problem with oilpan with traditional steering.

I have a front sump and it clears cross steering with vega box. However I am using a 32 frame which is 3" longer than Model A.

Just curious why you chose 302's only. SBF 221's, 260's and 289's are all based on the same basic design and all pre date the 302. I have a slightly warmed up 289 in my 29 Model A and it has been there since 1999 !

Going to do everything myself except build an engine. Just want to purchase a brand new crate motor, trans and winters rear end. I've seen 260, 289's on Ebay, but not really sure of build quality or longevity.

Lots of people trying to be helpful here but there's only one way to get a SBF in a full-fendered Model A and that's to modify the firewall. How much modification is required will depend upon how much junk you can remove from the front of the motor. Not much else to talk about.

Its worth mentioning that of the 10 pictures posted so far, 5 of them have electric fans, 2 have mechanical fans, and 3 you cannot determine the fan choice from the pictures posted.

Using an electric fan does make it easier to set the engine lower to require less firewall/floorboard intrusion.
