    Hello everyone

I am looking for pictures of a 28/29 Ford Model A Body combined with a 30/31 Grill. My search in the HAMB wasn't very fertile:(

I am grateful for any kind of pics or hints!

Personally I would keep 28-9's with 28-9 bodies and 30-1's with 30-1 bodies.. But hey, that's just me....

  4. I'm not surpirsed you couldn't find pics of a 28/29 with a 30/31 shell. Why would you want to use a taller shell that doesn't go with the body??

You'll find the 30-31 shell/radiator a bit tall for your 28-29 car/pickup unless you're doing the chop/channel thing and hanging the radiator and shell out and down in front of the axle.
You can of course chop the shell and have the radiator shortened if you want to use it in the stock position on top of the front crossmember, or use a 60-65Falcon/65-67Mustang radiator.

with this kind of logic we'd never have seen 28-29s with deuce grilles either...

i find it hard to believe it's never been done.

I agree with Dean, it won't fit right, if you're using fenders you would have to cut it down some how.

I dunno, you'd have to cut the stainless '30-'31 shell down to look/fit right. I'm thinkin' along the lines of Scrap Metal 48 & Dean Lowe. A cut down '32 would look better in my opinion. But what the heck, try a '30-'31 and see if it gets it for ya.

    Tanks for the diagrams beau!

Radiators for 30/31 grilles (27.4") are about 2" taller than those for 28/29 grilles (25,5").

Are there really no examples of this combination? I just cannot imagine that nobody ever tried...

The other way is, of course, to rework the cowl so the top of the tank is closer to horizontal. Is there enough fall there for the extra 2" you'll need? Then, I think the early hood slopes more than the later one, so you might not need to make up the entire 2" in the cowl.

Thanks for the Pic jick! Looks great! Seems like you haven't chopped the grille or lowered the fitting? Do you have a picture from the side?

I think the reason you dont see it much is because it dont work out nice, hence the lack of threads on the subject

if you have a 28-9 stick with its original shell,,

if you have a 30-31 you have the option to go with the 32 shell

    dont fight it

the lines and proportions of the model A are not very forgiving..if you fuck with them too much..it shows--and not in a good way

Ok, If you absolutely gotta do this deal, how about looking at a '30 '31 commercial shell? a bunch of us put a '30 coupe together for ElPolacko's dad about 7 years ago that was on "A" rails but channeled. Instead of the typical deuce shell, we cut down a '30 commercial shell and it looked fantastic! Just a bit different, and what I thought was funny, not many people knew what it was. Sorry, I don't have any pictures, that was back in the film days.

I used a 30/31 shell with a modified 28 hood and a 26 T cowl . had to drop it between the rails in front of the axle to make it look right.

just had to play with the placement till it looked right.

I like the look of that, elegant but more than slightly disreputable. Have you got any more photos?

Man I love the way you described it. You should be an ad man for products. Here are a few pics, I'm gonna start a build thread on it soon, got to finish out my 50 hardtop chevy first though.

I like where the proportions are going with that.

If you're up for extra bodywork I think the fronts of the rear fenders could do with a bit of a "tuck", sort of to roll them around the fronts of the tyres - i.e. so the lower front part follows the curve of the tyre down say, 10° past vertical and actually curls a bit to the back. Hard to explain. So much for a career in advertising ...

I'll look out for your build thread.

I wanted to do the exact thing as you. Because I genuinely like it better than the 28-29's and 32's. It does sit a little too high compared to the cowl. But dont listen to the folks who say it cant(or shouldnt ) be done if that is truly what you like. Its only metal right? Ill put some pics up soon.
