  8. Sounds like fun - Finsterwalde?
My Tudor has also just been driven at every possible occasion, should have done that engine rebuild years ago! :(

  9. I wondered what suggestions there were out there to ignition on a mild flathead four for the street. Winfield head, dual carbs etc. I ran a Mallory electronic ignition in the past and that was good, I am thinking about getting the same again or is there something else which people are using? Thanks

  11. I'm running a Pertronix 41-20A. It's an industrial distributor that fits a Perkins engine. We chose it because it has been able to withstand the tremendous loads that racing throws at it. The Mallory, which we'd previously used, kept jumping out of the head!

Bill, have you posted anything about your intake manifold? I did some searching and found that you modified downdrafts to side drafts but didn't find anything about the manifold.

  16. All i could find ! The first is scrap from around the shop, second is a finished tube, third is pieces going to welder, finished product is in earlier post. The balance tube is radiused on ends and I put a short piece of material in tubes before they were welded to hold location. surfaces were trued after welding.

  17. More side draft stuff, First is the adapters, one on left was first attempt, cut with Dremel and better part of 6 pack of Coors light, one on right was cut on rotary table on my Bridgeport. Gasket die to cut gaskets as those currently available are a bit lacy. Third photo shows adapter in place.

Thanks Bill! Can you educate me on why a balance tube versus a plenum? Also, how did you pick the diameter of the balance tube - using the That Looks About Right or did you use a formula?

  19. Cheers Juggler! 77.7mph on sand it seems. First run at 71, third run at 73.

  20. I just used what I had available. I don't think diameter is too critical to the average hot rodder but it probably is to those who don't do but just think and criticize. Not sure but first example that was referenced was Roof in US and he found it smoothed operation on race car engines. This I read in S O S S. Notice how large the dual downdraft manifold balance tubes are. I once made some balance tube fittings for use on Susuki MC's that were only maybe for 3/8" tube these were used on quad (4) carb settups.

Awesome!! How far do you have to get "up to speed"??

  23. We had a half mile which for me was plenty - it started feeling a bit light and I was still a long way from the 100 yard timing trap so I just held the speed and kept going.

Next year I'll be older and hopefully less wiser...

  24. Love projects like this! :-D
Thanks alot for sharing! Have you any before/after specs?

Has been looking ALOT at pictures and videos from Pendine, I really need to go someday!

  27. This may sound dumb but I wondered who people recommended to buy performance banger parts from. I have an A engine with a Winfield head, dual carbs, Mallory ignition and hope to get a Brierley cam. Looking for valve train recommendations, header etc
    Thanks
