stripped down the gearbox on my V860 over the last few days and on closer inspection it looks to be in really good condition....no missing teeth, no corrosion...the housing itself was full of sludge, nothing that couldn`t be removed...the question is ..what lubrication should i be looking at when i put it back together? monkey
I think 90W EP gear lube--will verify at home. By the way, I can't be sure, but from the pictures I think you have the big trans used on commercial applications, which is actually the 85 HP trans cast with a 60 bellhousing. The normal 60 trans is a tiny thing that looks like it belongs on an Austin 7 or something.
Good--the little trans looks like it would make an excellent geartrain for a pencil sharpener, but anything more would be risky.
strange really cause even though it did come out of a `37 slantback, the mounts have some extensions welded on them and other little things that dont look like they should have been there originally....I`m sure the guy i bought it from said that the car originated in Canada, then down to Uraguay and onto the UK....the car was right hand drive...this cant be the original engine...anyway thanks Bruce monkey
Interesting origins... I see a logo with big F and S brcketing it, in a place that's bare on the sixties I see here--I wonder if a block from Ford France or its heirs at Matford and Simca sneaked in there?? If originally sold in South America, its origins would likely be right here in New Jersey rather than Canada--Ford USA made lots of RHD cars both for non-British export markets and for domestic mail carriers. Canadian cars went almost exclusively to the empire, I think... What is the serial number on the upper bellhousing part of the trans, right over the little hatch made of tin?? I might be able to tell something from that. Bruce
the F & S actually says FAPS .....the only numbers i can find on the housing are 7 40 - 7222 monkey
