3.55 into a '39 chev car torque tube/help/opinions

    Need help putting a powerglide (early fifties) 3.55 into a 39 chevy car.


    I've been told this is possible.

    It can be done but i don't know the details. I do know that they sell a bushing that needs to be welded onto the rear to make it work.


    Hopefully somebody that knows more on this will help out. Cesar

Biggest issue is the torque tube and driveshaft is longer, so you have to either shorten it or adapt the '39 to the newer rear - but you may as well put a '51-'54 rear in, get the Bendix brakes, and swap the front brakes out for the same thing and have it stop better too. Maybe the guys at www.chevytalk.org can be of more help.
