I have one of these crate motors in my model A. It has a new Edelbrock 1406 carb on it and it shakes on an idle. I tried another carb and it was the same. Is this a character of these motors or do i have a different problem? I have run out of ideas.

  4. Your firing order might be off too. I think it should be 18436572

Pull plug wires one at a time and see which one doesn't matter. That will be the one where the ignition is dropping out.

Do what Scotty said first...check the ignition. If you have a flat cam, it'll sneeze out the carb on quick acceleration. Probably ignition though.

I have that engine in my '62 Suburban, and have over 20,000 trouble-free miles on it.

Check ignition first... sounds like you could have the distributor in a tooth off, or other timing screw-ups.
