The frame is done now its time for the motor. Were are using a 270 GMC block ,
    302 crank (6 bolt crank)
Venolia 300 pistons made for a wayne horning head
    4" bore
milled the block .125 to get 13.47 to 1
    polished rods & the block
    billet roller cam .514/.513
    roller rockers
    12 port horning head
    we are casting the injection
I'll try to keep this up to date as we go along

Those rods look too good to use! Put them where they can be admired.

We resized and balanced the rods and pistons lsat week. This is the first set I've ever done, let me tell you I will never bitch about buying $600 set of rods.
Mike made the prototype for our fuel injection, It will be 6 single injectors bolted to
a plate than bolted to the head , We had Collin make the mold and cast them.
The block is at Mikes getting machined for the roller lifters.

There is big problems with harmonics , Thats we are going over board on the balance of the rods and crank, and adding a big ATI balancer and the stall converter sould help some too.

It's looking great! Are you bringing it to the March Meet? What roller lifters are you using, and where are you getting the billet roller cam?

I ran a 270 and a 302 at Bonneville and the Lakes and the Drags for a while. Never any harmonic problems doing LSR. Drags were tough on the crank. Don't know why. Horning heads? Are they from Bill Fisher or Charlie Baker? I ran stock head, Howard head and Horning heads. One Horning I got from Charlie and one from Don Kincaid. Big fight with all three of those heads.

The motor we got had billet cam in it , and we just had it welded and reground , the
lifters were a swap meet find and I dont know who made them .
You can still get a roller cam and lifters from crower.

You have a great start......am anxious to watch the build progress.

May I ask about the use of a 270 block vs a 302 block? I have a complete '56 270 and access to a 302 block and crank. I read somewhere that a 270 crank is considerably lighter than a 302 shaft, though the stroke is the same, and I was wondering about using the 270 shaft in a 302 block. Any thoughts?

I had 270 pistons for a horning head. If I were you I would use the 302. I think the cranks are the same in the later motors .

The heads that Charlie had made were out of the league of the foundry that cast them. They all leaked badly and despite never ending work I never could get mine to stop leaking. Poor quality aluminum. They were all so warped that a few he cut in half and welded back together to try and flatten out the deck surface. Don Kincaid had the only one that I know of running much. Mine ran for a little while before launching a spark plug, still screwed in, at Bob Dalton. I ran Dons head at Bonneville and blew a head gasket. Gave up.

We blocked off the flow of oil in the middle of the main oil line and drilled below the plug
and put a fitting and now we can hook up a oil filter that starts at the oil pump.

I don't know what gasket you are planning to use on the head. Copper? I think that is the best (only?) choice when using an O-ringed block. My experience (albiet with 300 Ferds) is that a block O-ring will not be compatible with a composition gasket that has a fire ring in it (e.g. Felpro).

    Nice prep work.
