looking for more pictures of 26=27 roadsters with abbreviated cowl panels.seems to be a very common mod to lakes roadsters in the 40's and 50's.i would really like to see these cars without hoods so we can see how the firewalls were made, if they even had one.here's one.notice how the hood goes all the way back.[IMG]

also any ideas on wheelbase would be cool.they appear to have shortend wheel bases.

Hope this helps. My salt car. The cowl is shorted quite a bit.

My guess is they just laid the hood over the stock cowl, in an attempt at a better aero deal. Maybe ir is something related to the 28-29 vs 30-31 Roadster rules were the 28-29 has an advantage because the cowl section unbolts. Bob

I'll contact the owner and see if I can get some dimensions. The metal craftsman were the key to the fabrication of these cars. In other words there were no blueprints. Art Ingeles did the tin work on several of these cars, while they look similar the cars were all different, if you know where to look. I can't imagine anyone excluding a firewall. My vote is to build a car that fits your needs, some of the early designs were an experiment at best. Keep in mind wheelbase could be your friend, 110" + will help your polar moment of inertia.

Never seen this concept until this thread. It actually makes sense if you are trying to get the motor further back, but what about shifter placement?

I would stick around 100-106" if you want the old-timey look. Stock was 100". Mine doesn't have an abbreviated cowl, but the wheelbase is 104" if that gives you any help...

not that this helps much, but there was one in "the best of R & C since 53" anniversary issue with a 38 willys nose--the seat has been pushed back. I always loved the way it looked with the willys clip. lost the mag in one of my moves. maybe someone will find it and post it here

  20. I caught a couple pics of this ol' LSR at the 2011 GNRS. I don't know if I'd fit comfortably, but it sure looks good.

Interesting motor, extra port...was that a reverse rotation motor like the Tucker Brothers'? Was there a crank driven supercharger on it?
    Just curious...about the "Jimmy" photos
