Is there a stock water pump that can be used or do you have to buy the short pump for Patrick's or someplace ?

most guys just buy the short pump from patricks. My father bought one from jim carters(short pump, smaller pulley with the 235 fan blade bolt pattern) or in my own personal case, I made my own by used a gmc 270 pulley(smaller pulley) pressed onto a 235 pump.

Just shorten the '55 up pump. With the back plate off, support the shaft on the impeller end. Push the hub down until the pulley you selected aligns with the harmonic balancer, then cut the shaft ...
Or spend $$$ if you have to have new stuff.

You can also make an adapter plate to fit the early pump to a late 235.
