Found some old mags while cleaning out my grandfathers house. They are all from 1962 with the exception of a few '61's and a '63. They are all in almost new condition. Hundreds of articles on the cars of the day. LSR's, FED's, Hot Rods, Customs, Karts and one-off hand builts. My own personal research library (complete with cigarette ads and models in rather modest bathing suits). Looks like I'm going to busy for a while. Everyone enjoys a cool old find right? Even if it's not a coupe. I wonder if I can still get that Offenhuaser 4 duece intake for $92.50? I'll send away for the catalog.
it would be bad ass if you kept this tread alive with a weekly history lesson from each mag. maybe monthly? Unless your tired of scanning?
Can do. Right now I'm knee deep in a rticle about Markley's D lakester. The Boneville stories are absolutely fascinating.
I was a subscriber then. It made my week when it showed up in the mailbox. My aunt and uncle gave me a renewal every year for Christmas. It never ceases to amaze me how many magazine covers that can be contained in the human mind. Of course I don't clutter it up with a bunch of knowledge.
Ford sales brochure. Looks like grandpa had his eye on a convertible. I don't think he ever had a 61 Ford though. Maybe a pipe dream of his.
This is a link to all the Hot Rod Magazine covers for the past 60 years. HRP http://www.hotrod.com/whereitbegan/hrdp_0808w_hot_rod_magazine_covers/index.html
This is getting spooky, Dad bought a 1961 Ford 4door Hardtop, I remember looking at the catalog in the diningroom and picking out the red interior, I was 10 years old. We took the '61 on our first vacation ever to Washington D.C. remember buying that September 1962 issue of Hot Rod there. Like Tommy, my head is filled with details of the cars and people in those early issues.
Whadda ya know! Not a tattoo or rusty spiderweb grill insert in sight must be in the readers rides section in back, eh?
14 annual Oakland Roadster's Show. I'm sure this isn't as much fun for you guys as it is for me, but I am having a blast with this stuff. I also have a ton of old "Boys Life" magazines. Back when kids were allowed to have B-B guns and go outside by themselves. I'm only 33 so I can't say those were the good ol days, but things sure have changed. Any way, I will post something a little more indetph when I acually read some of these articles in completion. P.s. There are also some karting mags with Revell model car kit building articles. Awesome!
Oh wow, on that last R&C cover, check out that silver blue coupe at the top. Turn your head and check that beauty out! Lippy
I also found an old Lionel train set with tons of accessories, an old "Red Rider Freedom Fighter" and one of those metal vibrating baseball games. Also an old wood desktop radio circa early 1950's.
How about this thing from the June 1962 Hot Rod. I am not an Oldsmobile guy, I've never even owned one. Anyone have any experience with one of these things? The "Turbo-Rocket" was designed to incorperate all the best attributes of both conventional turbo and supercharging while minimizing the cons. The article was printed befor the planned release of the Turbosupercharger so at this point I have no idea if they ever went into production at all.
