Has anyone out there ever seen a 63 chev 409 4spd wagon? Im looking at buying one possibly but its a 409 /425 hp 4spd clone belair 9 pass wagon with 46000orig mi orig paint and interior .were there any real ones?
There was a single 4bbl one in Vancouver even. At the Sea Festival parade in the late 70's the clown car overheated right in front of me, they pop the hood and the gaily painted Chev wagon is real fine with an '09. It was a beater back then so who knows if it survived.
You could order one. I read an article about a 409/425 4 speed '64 Belair 4 door. The original owner ordered it for towing, and going fast. Sounds like a nice car. I especially like low-mileage survivors with original paint. Post a pic when you get it!
The story goes it was a 44000 mi car from San Jose Ca it came from an estate sale orig paint int. ect with a327 pg The present owner is a late great chevy guy and has a few 409 legit cars and parts. He had all the correct parts motor trans air cleaner fuel lines ect to make it a correct 409/425 car so he did . Hes also got a 64 belair wgn with a409 /340hp 4spd thats even nicer than the 63.
There is a thread on here about some guys finding an old fire department wagon which I believe had a dual quad 409 4 speed in it! No time to search for it right now....
On the 348-409.com website, some guy found a 62 409-409 matching numbers 4 speed wagon in the woods. It was rotted to the ground, but a real deal car. -Matt
My favorite was a 63 Pontiac 409 loaded wagon. It was a Canadian wagon obviously and not the hipo 4spd version but cool none the less. I saw it at Charlotte. IIRC
Over at Chevytalk.org there is thread about a guy who found a 62 409 dual quad 4 speed wagon..legit car
20 years ago a friend of mine brought a Brookwood wagon back from Arizona. He had a 425 409 car that was junk, body and frame, michigan car all it's life. He took all the factory stuff off the car and re-did the wagon. It was bad ass!
I once saw a 63 pontiac parisenne convert with a factory installed 409 4spd made in canada it was cool!
that woods find wagon has really never been proved or disproved. the reason it is so compelling is the fact it being drug out of the woods. until there is real proof i say whatever. i know of a 57' ragtop f.i. car thats been fooling people for years that was built just to make so called experts look like fools and it works.
Not a Wagon but a long while ago Super Chevy did an article on a 62 Chevy 4-door with a 409 and a 3 on the tree. Owner wanted a 409 car and the wife wanted a family car. She told him he can have a 409 car as long as it has 4 doors. So he went to the Chevy dealer and found out how to order one and did.
When I was a senior in high school back in 63 my class went to Pikes Peak, and the Forest Service was taking people to the top in just such a wagon. They were a light green and they had several of them.
We are pretty sure Dave Strickler has a '62 409 wagon that he used as a tow car. The car was lettered much like the race cars and it appears to have 409 flags on it in vintage photos. The car found in the woods was a Civil Defense car and still had the radios in the back. It looked like the real deal to me from photos. Ask your question over at 348-409.com. I'm sure someone there will know.
