    Is this statement true?

"In 1962 the Bonneville had a 4 speed automatic, while the Catalina and Grand Prix had a 3 speed auto (slim jim), which was not one of GM's better transmissions."

Just curious. If so, what tranny would this 4 speed auto be?

It's true. The trans in your Bonneville is a super-hydramatic or sometimes called jetaway......it's a dual-coupling hydramatic and way better than the Roto unit.......but .....not the same as the early hydros that B&M and others converted into "beefed hydros".

These trans were used by Pontiac from about '56 until '64. They have a very low first gear. That is why most Pontiacs from the era have 2 series gears and still have great acceleration.

Is that wheel in your avatar a Rader? I have a pair like that.
