I've got a 60 truck with a 235.The steering column is bad but i've got a tilt column from a mid 70s truck. Will the tilt column be strong enough to use without power steering

I don't know when GM went to the steering column with the 4 Torx bolts holding the tilt mechanism together, but that would seem to be the weak area. They went bad by loosening up routinely, and it's a heck of a lot of work to tighten those Torx bolts up; getting to them is the hard part. Those would have been with column ignition switches, so i'd probably stay away from them, and find an "older" tilt column without a switch in the column. Butch/56sedandelivery.
